What is UASC?

(UASC)

The Utah Association of Student Councils (UASC) is a vital organization dedicated to empowering student leaders across the state of Utah. With a mission to address current issues in schools and foster solutions that unify the student body, UASC plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational landscape.

Who We Are

The UASC consists of ten State Officers, each geographically assigned to support high school student leaders and their respective schools. These officers meet monthly to strategize and share insights, ensuring that student voices are heard at local, state, and national levels. By representing diverse perspectives from across Utah, UASC provides a platform for meaningful dialogue about issues affecting students today.

Guiding Leadership

At the helm of this organization is the UASC Director, who provides guidance to student government leaders and advisors, akin to a coach mentoring their team. Monthly newsletters are distributed to high school advisors, featuring resources aimed at nurturing student leaders. Additionally, the UASC organizes quarterly meetings via Zoom-where advisors can collaborate, receive training, and share best practices in a roundtable format.  Additionally, advisors and student council members who join the UASC gain full access to a comprehensive 350-page Student Council Leadership Handbook, as well as monthly resource tools hosted on the UASC website, accessible via a link under the UASSP website.

Partnerships for Progress

The UASC is proud to partner with Utah State Leadership Conference,, The TrailBlazers Leadership Conference, and the USU Stephen Covey School of Business to provide exceptional leadership training opportunities for students and advisors throughout the state.  These partnerships enrich the learning experience for both students and advisors, equipping them with the skills needed to effect change in their schools.

Advocacy and Influence

The UASC serves as an advisory council to the State Board of Education, to the Governor’s Cabinet on Education, the Utah High School Athletics Association, advocating for student interests in legislative discussions. The Student Voice initiative within UASC works closely with the Association of Utah Secondary School Principals (UASSP) to develop curriculum, engage in constructive dialogue, and facilitate educational practices that benefit all students. In addition to these collaborations, we serve with the UASSP Legislative Council, ensuring that student voices are represented in key discussions and decisions affecting education & student issues in Utah.
